ASK. MORE. QUESTIONS. That’s pretty much my soap-box-of-the-week message. Even experienced leaders operate in a lot of assumptions AKA BLIND SPOTS…. and then wonder why the resulting decisions send their teams – and the results they thought could happen- down a rocky road. Instead, pause and ask more questions! Yep, it takes a little time to pause. Yep, it takes a little time to inquire and gather information. And, the time invested is returned multiple times over when considering the problems and costs that were prevented.
 
FOR EXAMPLE: One of my #executiveleadership clients
was navigating a new opportunity for the company. The #executiveteam was rushing to decide where that new business should be served from – and only looking at the very obvious information like staff capacity. See, that location had just lost
an account and the staff had availability. EXCEPT, this executive team wasn’t considering more in-depth things like – Does that staff have the correct knowledge and training? Is the specialized equipment located at that city? What other opportunities are coming up that could be a better fit for that location?
 
RESULT? Because of our work together, this #executiveleader client,
1) emboldened her voice and expanded her influence,
2) asked strategic questions during the discussion,
3) provided ideas that no one else had considered, and
4) ultimately, it was her knowledge on the subject and business continuity idea that saved the company a preventable expense of $750,000.
